At Exeter Kitchen Store, we are always aiming to be greener. With recycling and renewable energy at the forefront of the business, our practices mirror the vibrant shade of green featured all over the EKS website (now that’s green)!
As the Exeter Kitchen Store factory is right on our doorstep, we have complete control over the many ways in which our waste is disposed. Maintaining control over this is extremely important to us as we realise and embrace the responsibility to be working towards a more sustainable future.
Here are a few ways that Exeter Kitchen Store are working in order to keep energy efficiency and sustainability a priority.
1. EKS has taken steps to reach carbon neutrality by installing a furnace which burns wood waste. We use the subsequent energy created to heat buildings which keeps the team toasty during the winter season!
2. Another form of environmentally friendly energy production at Exeter Kitchen Store is generated using solar panels! This contributes to the creation of electricity that is used across the factory, showroom and offices.
3. As well as generating electricity and heat, we work relentlessly to ensure that all scrap metal is recycled at the local Sims metal management to ensure metals are processed properly. The benefit of keeping it local is that we minimise CO2 emissions otherwise created by transportation!
4. At Exeter Kitchen Store, we create our kitchen cabinets using FSC certified wood in order to produce you a more sustainable kitchen. This wood is responsibly sourced from FSC certified forests so you can be sure that our products and the forests they originate from are managed responsibly. In addition to this, our print brochures are made from sustainable carbon woodland paper with the help of Forest Carbon!
5. All cardboard is recycled as well as Polythene, which is collected by Devon Contract Waste for correct disposal. Our left-over polystyrene is baled into compact bricks and distributed to other local businesses who repurpose it. Left-over pallets are either woodchipped and put into the furnace for heating or offered to and collected by the local community to be used as firewood!
Although we are actively working towards the shared goal of a more sustainable future, we are always looking for more ways in which to evolve and optimise the efficiency of this process!
